From Entanglement By Annex Location: Irish Pavilion at 17th Biennale Architettura 2021, Venice, Italy.

These unique seats, designed for the Irish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021, embed histories of telecommunication infrastructure through their form and materiality. The purple-hued slate from Valentia quarry, the site of the first transatlantic undersea cable landing in the mid-19th Century, has been etched and filled with copper-resin to record the pathway and landing co-ordinates of various undersea data cables from the last 150 years. Each seat also contains a cross-section of the original undersea cable that brought the first electronic messages from Valentia island to Newfoundland in the 1850s. The seating surfaces are mounted into 4-unit steel data center server cabinets

(Produced with ANNEX collective for the Irish Pavilion at 17th Biennale Architettura 2021, Venice, Italy).
