These sculptures appear to be gilt frames at first glance. On closer inspection, they are formed from hundreds of layers of machine-melted plastic. Moreover, the designs on the surface are optically nebulous. They have been designed by an AI. Meaning, these objects were originated as 2D ‘photographic’ images of gilt frames, which are then transposed to three-dimensional extrusions. The objects possess a photography-centric perspective, in that they look most coherent from the front. Mounted on the wall which has been painted with ultra matte black paint, essentially framing nothing.
