Media: Paintings based on manual image segmentation applied to the desktop wallpapers that come free with operating systems.

These painting works on their face are laboriously produced, psychedelic and abstract images. The fabrication of these works starts by taking ubiquitous landscape imagery that is featured in the digital wallpaper that ships with popular operating systems (MacOS, Windows, Ubuntu, Android, etc). Image-segmentation processes are then applied to the objects in the landscape, as a means to extract forms which are then filled with repetitive psychedelic lines, undoing the representational aspect of the source imagery. The context of this image segmentation process comes from the time the series started, 2016, which is the first months and years that popular machine learning algorithms were being trained to visualize and hallucinate slop. This training was carried out with vast amounts of distributed human labour, where objects were manually ‘segmented’ (outlined) in photographs and other imagery, Essentially, this form of labour, a logistical process in the history of machine learning development, was appropriated and used as a method for the design of their composition. This ongoing series is a formative body of work in the practice specifically relating to the production of hand-made digital artworks.
