pragmatophobia
/ˌpræɡ.mə.təˈfoʊ.bi.ə/
noun
An irrational fear of reality, practical existence, or confronting the concrete conditions of life; avoidance of the real in favor of abstraction, fantasy, or denial.

pragmatophobia.net (Est. 2014) brings together NASA’s live video footage of Earth from space with a selection of textual posts from internet users around the world who are grappling with the nuances of cultural reality. Originally this site skimmed a selection of these kinds of posts from Twitter, long before it became ‘X the Everything App for Unfuckable Nazis’. While the site lay broken for almost a decade, today it has been redeveloped in its original form, but now takes an algorithmic selection of ephemeral thoughts from the current home for less problematic brain-rot, Bluesky (as of 2026 anyway).
