The Enthusiasts (2018)

Date: 2018
Medium: Video, Food delivery backpack, Sculptural assemblage, Laser-etched LED glass panel.
Duration: 3min 25secsec (looped)

The Enthusiasts was first exhibited in Weird Capitalism at Transfer Gallery, NYC, 2018. Produced on a laptop in coffee shops around Manhattan and Brooklyn on the months leading up to the exhibition, the moving image component of the sculpture is a computer generated video depicting young people playing job-simulator video games in a hipster cafe. It gets its title from the soundtrack, which is a socialist realism song from the Soviet Union. The video works in this show were installed in food delivery backpacks, from which hung Soviet Socialist Realism paintings that were laser etched onto LED illuminated glass.
