Medium: Stereo audio on 12" picture-vinyl.
Duration: 17min
This audio piece is presented on a vinyl picture disc that loops on a fully automatic (repeating) record player. The audio work splices together a number of YouTube tutorials for producing landscape images in 3D design software from the 80s and 90s. The tutorials are stripped of their utility and their audio tracks are cut together to sound like a sort of conversation about manufacturing digital spaces. The content of this meandering stream of men’s voices is at once authoritative and futile, littered with esoteric instructions and codified language for simulating landscapes. At times it feels they might be working together to make a unified world. The image printed on the disc itself was produced in an application called Bryce 3D which was a digital landscape design app in the 90s.
