Dimensions: 246mm(h) x 245mm(d) x 244mm(w)Like all public space today, the ‘Smithfield Utah’ public sculpture is on Google Earth. Google’s algorithms produce 3D geometries of buildings, trees and other public objects by stitching together the photographs taken by their Street-view car. It is a process called photogrammetry. As such, Smithfield in Dublin is displayed as a low-quality 3D mesh with a blurry photo wrapped around its facade. Tinkering around with some blender plugins, I managed to extract the geometrical information for the teapot from Google Earth. From this data, I produced a high-quality ‘castable’ 3D print which was sent to a bronze foundry in Dublin. The outcome is a digital object that was once rendered in bronze, reproduced by a tech corporation as a wonky digital object, which is then rendered in bronze once again as a physical object
